Working with… Thought Essence (What’s Thought Essence)?


This is another interesting, and relatively unexplored area of our subtle anatomy, but one which has enormous implications for the effectiveness of our ability to manifest, plus energy boundaries and personal space… is Thought Essence.

In esoteric circles, there is a long tradition which considers our own thoughts to be the fundamental components which build our physical reality. Hence, you often come across statements such as:

  • Thoughts become Things (Mike Dooley)
  • Mind is the Builder (Edgar Cayce)

In this context, it is not the thought just passing through your mind which builds your reality, but the thoughts which you continually hold to, your beliefs and core values. These thoughts are the ones which your physical reality is founded upon, and thoughts that are carefully nurtured and expanded by your unconscious mind. Sanaya Roman’s guide Orin often describes earth plane reality as a dimension of frozen thought, but says that we need to hold a thought in our mind consistently, over a period of time, before it will freeze and take on the shape in the physical reality around us… and to do that requires the full co-operation of our unconscious mind, because although our conscious mind can point the way, it is our unconscious mind that does all the hard work.

Duane Packer says that the art of manifesting is to be able to pluck the right thought down from the sky, and then literally wrap it up in an emotion, so that it stays put and doesn’t float off… bit like a balloon filled with helium is held down by the string which is tied to it.

One of the problems people often experience when trying to use the Law of Attraction to change their external circumstances is that they don’t focus on the thoughts they want to manifest for long enough, as to do so requires time and a sustained, laser-like mental focus. Without this, thoughts will remain unfrozen… or floating and unfixed… and as we shall soon see, to freeze thoughts / hold them down also requires thought essence.

Most people view the universe bottom up, and are more identified with their physical bodies, and the physical reality around them. Most of their attention is focused on and around their five senses, which are designed to capture information about the physical world out there. So, to someone who is physically and externally orientated, thoughts just seem like clouds floating in the sky. They don’t seem to have any discernable substance. OK, occasionally they are useful, when you happen to chance upon a good thought which helps you achieve something positive, but apart from that, you cannot discern that thoughts actually do or create anything. They are just sat there in your head.

But if you believe that reality is top down, as many esoteric traditions do, then thoughts are higher up the vibrational scale then physical matter, and so command more energy / power than physical objects. They can literally re-arrange the furniture of our lives. It’s just that we lack the senses to be able to perceive thoughts as external objects, just as we are unable to perceive X-rays with our own eyes. And if you stand back and take a broader view, every invention started as a thought in someone’s head, which then connected with other thoughts, in other people’s heads, which allowed that invention to be made, marketed, recognized, talked about, bought, used, and appreciated. Now, that is a lot of thought action going on behind the scenes of any single invention.

Also, because we are more identified with our conscious mind, and walk around totally oblivious to our unconscious mind (which is why it is unconscious), few of us are in a position to judge which big thoughts are the foundation upon which our life has been built. Right now, could you come up with the five thoughts and beliefs around which your own life is based, and could you write down your three most important core values? Probably not?

To do so would require you to have some awareness of your own thoughts, and be able to stand back and analyse the relationship between the situations which manifest in your life and the beliefs and core values which inhabit your conscious and unconscious mind.

It would require you to start playing the role of detective towards your own life, and it would also require that you start paying attention to what is going on around you, inside and out, and try to identify the underlying themes and patterns of your life.

Unfortunately, it also means giving up the luxury of moaning about how bad your life is, and how it is always someone else’s fault. Because if you are the architect of your own life then, ultimately, you are responsible for the life you build. It is up to you to change things, and not someone else. But when learning about the Law of Attraction, this is the part which some people decide to skip over… which is another reason why it doesn’t seem to work for them… but then that becomes something else which they can moan about!

If the Universe around you manifests the thoughts which you hold in mind… then the power ultimately resides with you… karma permitting.

Now, if it is correct that thoughts do become things, and that mind is the builder, then we could say that thoughts are like bricks.

You build physical structures with bricks, and so bricks are a good physical analogy for our thoughts.

However, when building a house with bricks, you need something to bind them together, otherwise there will be no strength and robustness in your structure… so that is why builders use mortar to hold the bricks together, and it is the mortar which gives the building its strength.

In a similar way, our thoughts need an energetic mortar if there are ever going to manifest… and this energetic mortar we will call thought essence. In the mental realm, it is thought essence which:

  • Connects a thought to an emotion, so that we experience that emotion whenever we become aware of that thought, and gives it the desire needed to successfully manifest.
  • Connects one thought to another thought, so that we can have a chain of thoughts in our own head, which is really important if you are going to try and think about something.
  • Connects a thought in the head of one individual to the same or similar thought in someone else’s head, so that we can spark off each other, think alike when necessary.
  • Connects an impartial thought to our subjective perspective, so that it isn’t just the bike but my bike. This means thought essence is also responsible for allowing us to experience pain – i.e. consider the difference between the bike has been stolen, and my bike has been stolen… it really describes a whole different universe of pain.

As you can hopefully see, thought essence is important and vital stuff.

If you think about it, thoughts are like clouds which drift across a desert. The clouds contain water, which could rain down on the desert and make it fertile. But the conditions are never right to make it rain, and so the clouds and water remain up in the sky, while the desert below remains parched. But if conditions are right then water droplets will start to form inside the clouds, gathering enough mass and weight so that they are heavy enough to fall as rain… and very soon the desert will start to bloom.

Now, thoughts are like the clouds floating in the mental sky, and the desert is like our life on the earth plane. Just because we can think about and hold a thought in our awareness does not mean that it will automatically manifest in our life. To believe that is like a thirsty man in the desert, looking up at the water clouds floating through the sky above his head. He can’t reach the water, and the conditions are not right for the water to rain down upon him. But he believes that somehow the act of looking up will somehow cause the rain to fall, and his thirst to be quenched.

Just because you can think about something, doesn’t mean that it will necessarily manifest in your life. The conditions have to be right, and it is thought essence that helps to create those right conditions. Thought essence focuses in on a thought floating through our mental sky, starts to give it mass and weight, starts to form connections with our emotional body, so that we desire it in our life (which is the emotional component of manifestation), starts to form connections to other thoughts… and if held within our mental focus over time, then the thought will eventually manifest in our physical life, in form and presence.

Put simply, that is the process. Thought essence is like glue which sticks ‘stuff’ – physical, emotional, mental and subtle – together.

Thought essence has a direct link to our pre-natal chi, the energy which we are given at birth, and which underpins our whole physical existence and allotted time-span within this physical body. Just as we are only given a certain amount of pre-natal chi to see us through to the end of our life, we are only given a certain amount of thought essence, although we are in complete control over which thoughts we choose to attach that thought essence too, and so we can re-use and re-cycle it ad infinitum. The trick, therefore, is to use what thought essence you do have wisely, removing it from old thoughts which you no longer want to empower, and assigning it to new thoughts which you do want to energise, you do want to manifest in your life in some shape or form.

Which is exactly the process which is contained in the Audio Essence below.

Actually, it is not the conscious mind which re-assigns our thought essence to new thoughts. That is all done by our unconscious mind. But the conscious mind does give the commands, and decides which old thoughts to de-energise and which new thoughts to empower. So success in life is a matter of finding the correct relationship between our conscious and unconscious minds.

That’s one of the great things about this process… consciously, all you need to do is give the conscious command… and the unconscious will do all the rest…

And the other great thing about this process… it gives you a direct way to work with your limiting, dis-empowering, and negative thoughts… which fill your mind, fill it up with low vibrational stuff… and with this process you target the thoughts you want to dis-empower… get the unconscious mind to take away their thought essence… so they can float off into the sky… and the same thought essence is passed across to the new thought you do want to empower.

Honest… It’s that simple.

And if you repeat the process over time, you’ll find that the whole atmosphere of your mental space will change for the better.

Practical Suggestions on Use:

  • The more conscious attention that you can give to an Audio Essence, the deeper and more fulfilling your experience will be.   • It is strongly advised that you do not listen to an Audio Essence while driving or performing tasks which require your undivided attention.

    Great post. Love it. Well done.

    I was reading a book which said that “When a Shaman and a Magus refer to knowing the true name of something, they are talking about getting into the thought essence that makes and defines the object or entity they wish to control”.

    I wanted to know what thought essence was, so I googled and your page came up.

    I’m still not sure how you would get into the thought essence of something? Perhaps you can tell me more. Does the object have to be alive?

    I have another question. On the video, How is the “I must” and “I am” actually working? I’m confused because I’m saying “I must” followed by something that I don’t want to do anymore. For example, if I don’t want to worry, I’m saying “I must worry …”.

    Hi Nathan, The way I am using the term “thought essence” in the post is not really the same as the context used by those shamans and magicians etc. They are referring to thought essence in the context of the thought plane, the dimension upon which thought itself is believed to have a tangle substance… whereas I am (as the post explains) using it for the name of the substances which bonds a thought to the personality self etc. Now, to answer your question of how you get into the thought essence of something (i.e. shaman definition)… basically, you go one level up. So physical level, above that is the etheric level, above that is the emotional level. above that is the mental level… and above that is consciousness itself… so, to quote a spiritual writer like David Hawkins, if you can raise up to the level of consciousness, then you can look down and know anything on the lower levels. Basically, you will find the same in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. But to do that you need to let go of your identification with the lowver levels… which is easier said then done. Hope that makes sense.     OK… you must understand this in terms of the context of what the subtle vibrations are doing, those contained within the Audio Essence itself. So the vibrational command is basically saying to the Unconscious mind… “take A, take the thought essence attached to A… and remove it… and attach it to B instead”… and the word BUT between them separates the two statements. This is why this approach is so powerful, because you can actually work with negative beliefs without empowering them at the same time. Yes, of course you don’t want to empower the “I must” part of the statement / equation… but you need to say it in order to identify the belief which you wish to disempower, and from which you want the thought essence to be removed… that’s the best explanation I can give… but you kind of need to try it and see if you feel better when the focus is switched to the “I am” statement. Hope that makes sense.

    What if in the beginning of the statement I said “I must not worry” instead of “I must worry …”. Would it still work the same way?

    No… it needs to be in that in that order and structure… think of it like a bit of computer code, which you are putting across to the Unconscious Mind to action… i.e. take thought essence from statement A and transfer to statement B… and if you are not being honest about the negative thought you want to disempower… process won’t work.
