Peridot is an orthorhombic crystal. It has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Moh scale.

The colour of Peridot is green, but it works in a blue way.

But what does that mean in practical terms?

Well, the colour green is associated with balance, expansion, abundance, and the strength to walk our individual path.

When we have an orthorhombic green crystal, we can also add the words coolness, communication and energy / mental flow.

But to understand the Peridot vibration we need to consider not only its colour and crystal structure, but also how it forms, because Peridot is created through a process of volcanic action (ie… hot, hot, hot !!!).

Peridot is a Heart stone, which was formed through hot / red volcanic action, but it also has an orthorhombic structure, which is all about cooling energy down.

This means that it is an excellent vibration to use when the Heart chakra has become overheated.

In Chinese medicine, the Heart is associated with the Fire element, and needs sufficient Fire to function… we need sufficient Fire energy to think, to comprehend the world around us… to have a strong sense of Self.

However, if the Fire becomes too intense then this can lead to a whole host of problems and issues for that individual (i.e. excessive joy, an overheating of the mind, the mind not being able to switch off).

When the Heart is overheated, then the individual finds it hard to hold that place of balance in their inner and outer life.

This is why it is also important to cool, protect and regulate the Heart, when appropriate, and in the meridian system there are a number of sub-systems designed to do this.

However, if those systems are not functioning correctly for some reason, and the individual needs a vibration which can also cool the heart, then Peridot is an excellent vibration to call upon… (Larimar is another go to crystal in this regard… blue and volcanic).

When the Heart becomes overheated, it can no longer maintain its own balance and equilibrium, and this can be due to a number of emotional reasons – feelings of rejection, grief, anger, or excessive joy… and Peridot helps to draw away any hot energies arising from these limiting emotions… although it won’t fix the underlying issue… but it can help bring relief.

When the Heart has just the right amount of ‘heat’ – not too hot, not too cold – then it is very easy for a person to find that place of inner balance.
