Dumbledore’s Answer

Remember that scene towards the end of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2… where Harry meets up with the deceased Dumbledore in a celestial version of King Cross Train Station

Dumbledore says that instead of returning to face and battle Voldermort, Harry has the choice to go a different way, to board a train instead…

Harry then asks, where too?

And Dumbledore sagely replies…

On!

In life, there is always going to be an On!

As the Ancient Greek mystic Heraclitus used to say “You cannot step in the same river twice” because ours is a Universe of constant movement.

There is always going to be an On!… even when things look their darkest… nothing is 100% fixed… there is no one who is forever damned… everything will and must change eventually…

That’s written into the core of Existence… there is always an On!… and another On!… which leads to the next On!… and On!

Or as the Sufis say… This to shall pass.

OK, things may not be the changing at the speed you might like or desire… and things may be stuck because you are opposed to the change on some level… and the world around us may not be where we would choose to be.

But all situations will and must change eventually… it’s a law of the Universe.

Which reminds me of a very important dream I had back in the 1980s… which took place in an London Underground train station…

London Underground Map

You have probably have seen this famous map of the London Undergound.

Well, in this dream, it was pointed out to me that if you are standing in the centre… there are a number of different ways to reach any station on the map…

So if one route is blocked to you… just try a different route instead.

And on the London Underground there are electronic signs overhead which state the time of:

Next Train 3 minutes

Next Train 6 minutes

Next Train 9 minutes

Well, in this dream, there was a voice coming through the overhead sound system which said:

While you are alive, the Universe will always keep sending you trains to help you reach your destination… every 3 minutes… and there are so many different ways for you to reach your home… if one way is temporarily blocked, re-route your journey… so hang in there, and don’t ever give up hope.

And that’s exactly what I have found… the Universe… God… Tao… whatever name you want to use… never gives up on us.

It’s only Us who give up on Ourselves…

But if you can reach within… find that faith in yourself… rekindle your belief in yourself and your dream… then you will see that you have been sat in London King Cross all the time… and the Universe has been sending a train every 3 minutes… on schedule… ready for you to board to take you On!

OK, the route you take to your final destination may be strange, and different, and unexpected, and pass through several unexpected places…

But if you are ready to step on board the next arriving train… you will be taken onwards… which is what life is all about really…

Now at times like this it is customary to quote the 18th Century German poet Goethe:

(But at) the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.

But instead I am going to end with…

As the immortal Meatleaf says in the song Bat Out of Hell

Wherever you are, and wherever you go, there’s always going to be some light…

And for anyone who hasn’t yet watched the Kings Cross Station scene from Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2 … there is a lot of practical wisdom in this scene…
